Brand new & Boxed American civil war model 'pup tents' for use in Civil war dioramas / scenes. Includes two tents and 4 extras, equipment, surroundings etc. (see pictures). Made by William Britain. Cat no :- 17440.

Civil War tents were what most soldiers called home during the Civil War.

Each Union soldier was given half a tent. It was a piece of canvas that had to be attached to another soldiers canvas that would form two sides of the tent.

They got the nickname of 'pup tent' because soldiers felt that they were more fit for a dog than a human, especially when keeping out the bad weather. These tents were very small.

The tent could easily be set up almost anywhere.

Southern soldiers were more reliant on captured Union tents rather than having their own issued tent !
